A boutique in East Hampton, NY asked us to boost sales. The recession was affecting the
bottom lines for all the local retailers, but Nancy & Co. increased sales by a whopping 200% due to a
program we dubbed "Jean Therapy."
Imagine - After more than 30 years in business,
storeowner Nancy Schneider saw sales slip from a shaky economy and an influx of trendy boutiques and
"big box" retailers. We knew Nancy offered fabulous one-of-a-kind items that you couldn’t find anywhere
else –- plus, her fashion sense was so keen, she put Jackie O. in a pair of hot pants in the ‘60’s.
Focus - We set out to get Nancy the biggest bang for
her buck, with a small advertising budget (using targeted local print and online outlets) and
large-scale media blitz that branded Nancy & Co. as "the place" to go for jeans. (They stock more than
2,000 pairs.) Nancy’s staff was trained as "Jean Therapists." We brokered partnerships with
manufacturers and other local businesses (which garnered a national story in Smart Money Magazine.) We
also connected with a local charity, Ellen’s Run, and held a private shopping night for more than 1,000
runners.
Buzz - Everyone was
talking about Nancy’s "Jean Therapy" program and reporters were calling us for private fittings. All
major Hamptons publications covered the event and a full profile on Nancy ran in the East Hampton Star.
Online banners broke through the clutter and drove shoppers to the store.
Profit - In retail, it really is all about the
bottom line – and in just one weekend, Nancy & Co. saw more than $20k in sales (not just jeans either!)
Year-over-year store sales were up dramatically too. With people all over the country "tightening their
belts," Nancy’s shoppers "opened their wallets" - due to a creative combination of promotion, alliances,
PR, advertising and online marketing. We exceeded our sales goals (and helped hundreds of women look
fabulous this season). A similar "formula" is being applied for a fall promotion at Nancy’s NYC
location.
